Akiko Ichikawa Creative Director
Akiko is a NY-based journalist who writes for some of Japan’s most influential fashion magazines and daily newspapers such as Japanese VOGUE, NUMERO Tokyo, Asahi Shimbun and Senken Shimbun among others.
One of her many beats has been covering the Brazilian fashion scene. As a regular attendee of Sao Paulo Fashion Week, Fashion Rio and other events around the country since 2002, Akiko was one of the first in the Japanese media to explore and report on the Brazilian market. In 2008, she authored an article on Brazilian costume history for the accompanying catalog of an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo entitled, “Neo Tropicália: When Lives Become Form”, which was organized to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Japanese immigration to Brazil.
Prior to her career as a journalist, Akiko worked with Polo Ralph Lauren in Japan. She spent 5 years in the Public Relation & Sales Promotion department where she helped to establish the designer’s market in Japan.
Beach Couture
Beach Couture is the vision of stylist Vanda Jacintho. After graduating from the London College of Fashion, Vanda began styling and travelling on shoot for leading publications like VOGUE and ID before she decided to invest in her own designs.
